2020 4-H Programs, Plans & Events:

Rowan County 4-H offers several programs, events, and competitions throughout the year. If you have questions about these opportunities, please email

Rowan 4-H Clubs meet throughout the year. More information on 4-H Clubs.

County Council is open to youth ages 12-18 (as of January 1). This group typically meets each month from 6-7 p.m. at the Extension office. This group of 4-H’ers plans and organizes county level programs (such as Achievement Night). They are involved in planning fundraisers and community service projects and creating new ideas for Rowan County 4-H.

Parents, Alumni, Leaders and Supporters (PALS) is open to any adult who wants to support 4-H and help plan, fundraise and share new ideas that will benefit the Rowan County 4-H Program. This group meets every other month at 6 p.m. at the Extension office.

  • January 9: Project Record Books, Portfolios and Achievement Plans Due
  • January 11: South Central District 4-H Winter Enrichment (Union County)
  • January 24: Rowan County 4-H’er of the Year application due **Application should be completed by the 4-H’er, not parents or club leaders.**
  • January 28: Rowan County 4-H Volunteer Training
  • January 31-February 2: NC 4-H Volunteer Leaders’ Association Conference


  • Feb. 4-28: Homeschool 4-H Embryology Cycle
  • 4-H Speak Up program: meets once a week for 4 weeks for youth to develop public speaking skills
  • 4-H Ambassador Training, Feb 8: open to youth ages 13-18 (as of January 1) who have been in 4-H for at least 2 years.
  • Achievement Night, Feb 24: (annual event to recognize 4-H’ers for their participation in 4-H during the previous calendar year)


  • March 3-26: Public School Cycle 1 4-H Embryology
  • March 7-8: South Central District 4-H Teen Retreat (Millstone 4-H Camp)
  • Began virtual meetings & events due to Covid-19. In-person 4-H events are canceled through at least mid-August.
  • March 24, 3 p.m.: Virtual Project Record Book workshop


  • April 1: Rowan County 4-H Event Scholarship applications due
  • Virtual 4-H Horse Judging competition
  • County Activity Day (virtual for 2020), Registration due by April 9

  • June 9: Virtual 4-H Dairy Judging competition (14-18 years old only)
  • June 8-14: Rowan County 4-H Weekly Challenge (Creativity Challenge)
  • NC 4-H Virtual Citizenship Focus: June 15-17, 1-4 p.m. on Zoom, must pre-register to by May 20.
  • June 15-21: Rowan County 4-H Weekly Challenge (Get Fit Challenge)
  • June 22-26): Virtual NC 4-H Camp (details listed on Summer Fun page). Must pre-register.
  • June 29-July 5: Rowan County 4-H Weekly Challenge (Patriotic Challenge)

  • July 7-9: Virtual Electric Congress (only open to youth ages 11-18 who have participated or are interested in 4-H electric projects).

  • July 8-12: NC 4-H Virtual Horse Show
  • July 13-19: Rowan County 4-H Weekly Challenge (Learn a New Skill Challenge)
  • July 16: Virtual NC 4-H Avian Bowl Contest
  • State Presentation Finals (virtual for 2020)
  • July 20-23: Virtual NC 4-H Congress (open to currently active 4-H’ers ages 13-18 as of January 1; must pre-register by June 18 to
  • July 20-26: Rowan County 4-H Weekly Challenge (Be Green Challenge)
