Amazing Grazing and NC Choices are collaborating to offer two unique and exciting educational workshops in Goldsboro on Sept. 2nd for beef and pork producers. The first workshop will start at 2pm and will cover low-stress animal handling techniques. Lead instructors will introduce producers to the basics of flight zones and other controlled movement fundamentals for beef and pork. At 5pm all participants are invited to join us for a local burger cookout with simple side dishes and as well as some informal networking time. After supper, join Sharon Freeman for a pasture walk and even workshop discussion on summer annual forage plots that are under experimentation for grazing cattle. This session will also include a demonstration and hands-on opportunities with portable, electric fencing that enables producers to easily control grazing patterns for most livestock. Each workshop costs $5 to attend and dinner is free of charge.

Our R.A.C.E. 4-H Jumping Clinic will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Ellis Park in Salisbury. There will be four 90 minute sessions consisting of four riders per session. Riders will be grouped according to ability. All riders MUST wear helmets. This clinic is open to 4-H members first and then to our leaders and parents if space permits. A Liability Release Form must be signed for every rider. Negative coggins must be shown for each horse. Cost is $15.00 per horse/rider combination. Our clinician is Amy Henderson.

If you are wanting to participate, please email Judi Ziegelhofer at Judiemouse@aol.com the following information: Your name, your address, your phone number, your email address, horse's name, 4-H club you belong to and at what height you are presently jumping. Deadline for entries is September 2nd. On September 4th, you will receive an email as to which session you have been assigned. Beginner sessions will be first, then intermediate and so on during the day. Fees will be paid at the clinic.

The Rowan County Fair is right around the corner. With the fair, comes the 4-H Junior Dog Show. For those youth competitors who are interested in participating, Lynn Meeks of the Salisbury Kennel Club will hold two dog showmanship clinics. These clinics are open to youth, ages 5 to 19, and will be held on Tuesday, September 9, and Tuesday, September 16 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Salisbury Kennel Club, 4208 Old Concord Road, Salisbury, NC. At this clinic, youth will work on handling their dog as well as learn some aspects of showmanship to prepare their dog for the annual 4-H Junior Dog Show at the Rowan County Fair.

Space is limited to 20 youth and dogs for these clinics. Please call 704-216-8970 or email sara_drake@ncsu.edu to sign up for these clinics. All youth are to bring their dogs, record of vaccination, and meet at the Salisbury Kennel Club. Bring your dog's collar, leash, a bowl for water, bags for clean-up, and a crate.

Soup or Sauce (SOS) Mix – In today's busy world, cooks are looking for ways to save time in meal preparation. Making a suing the Soup and Sauce (SOS) Mix can provide many opportunities for saving time as well as money. Basic dishes become quicker, easier, less expensive to make and are flavorful. Come learn how to make the SOS mix for your convenience.

Registration is required and the sessions are free and open to the public. Participants will receive samples of food at each session, recipes, and other educational materials. We'd like to invite natives and visitors alike to celebrate Currituck Heritage and the centennial of Cooperative Extension at this year's Currituck Heritage Festival. The event will be held on Saturday, September 20 from 1-6pm at the Currituck County Rural Center in Powells Point. The day will begin with a re-creation of the annual county farm picnic and will continue with live music, exhibits, a Currituck history timeline, vendors, contests and activities for the whole family in a beautiful setting. The event will end with a community barn dance with musical guest Out 'N The Cold from 4-6pm.
Come and just enjoy the day or register for one of the many contests from Corn Shucking, to the Homegrown and Handmade contests or the Little and Junior Miss Currituck pageants.
