Rowan County 4-H member, Samuel Oster, son of Robert and Cheryl Oster, has recently been named the recipient of two 4-H scholarships.

The Rowe McNeely Scholarship is given annually to a graduating senior 4-H’er who has been actively involved in the 4-H program in either Rowan or Iredell counties. After an application process, Oster was chosen as the winner. He will receive a $1,500 college scholarship.

4-H’ers can also apply for state-level 4-H scholarships. Through North Carolina 4-H, Oster was awarded the Huddleston Family 4-H Scholarship in the amount of $500. This scholarship is specifically given to a 4-H’er who is actively involved in the 4-H Electric program and has attended 4-H Electric Congress.

Oster, a 2020 graduate of Jesse C. Carson High School, has been actively involved in the Rowan County 4-H program for 12 years. His primary experiences in 4-H have been with the 4-H Electric program and 4-H Shooting Sports program. He has also excelled in the areas of 4-H presentations, project record books, portfolios, leadership development, and community service. He is a member of the Hot Shots 4-H Club.

This fall, Oster will be attending Rowan Cabarrus Community College. He then plans to transfer to UNC Charlotte or NC State University to complete his degree in mechanical engineering.

4-H is the youth development component of Cooperative Extension and is available for youth ages 5-18. To get your child involved in programs offered by 4-H, contact laura_allen@ncsu.edu, 704-216-8970, or see our website.
