2024 Rowan County Agent Variety Test – Wheat
CROP PRODUCTION:
Farmers: Moore Farm, Inc., Mt. Ulla, NC.
Planted: 26-Oct-2023 | Harvested: 13-Jun-2024
Row Spacing: 7.5" | Seeding Rate 120 lbs/A
Each variety strip was 15' wide, 252' long and replicated three times. Grain weight was measured using NC State Extension's weigh wagon. Wheat was no-till drilled into corn stubble under dry conditions. Growing season was good to fair. Wet conditions during dry-down reduced grain quality.
RESULTS:
Yield for all plots was adjusted to 13.5% moisture. Average yield: 96.7 bu/A, TW 58.0 lbs/bu; Income: $573.00.
Price data and discount schedule is from a local mill for milling wheat at the time of harvest. Quality data on falling number and DON is pending lab analysis.
* Income / Acre = Yield x Price - Discount for TW
**Differences between varieties were significant (P≤0.05).
Varieties with the same letters are not statistically different from each other. This means that differences in variety performance may be due to chance when the statistical grouping letters are the same.
