Description:

This 4-H Curriculum is developed by seasoned educators and research based.

Form and function are the big ideas for this lesson. We will be building a trebuchet aka as a large catapult. Castles walls were assaulted by armies using these machines during the Middle Ages armies would use them to hurl stones at castle walls.

Why should you take this class? It will be fun to see who's model will hurl their marshmallow the furthest, plus building a small model will allow us to experientially learn concepts in physics and engineering.

Hands-on materials are common household items. Worksheets will be emailed to registrants.

  1. Assortment of items from your household junk drawer. (any grouping will be appropriate)
  2. Paper for note-taking, (graph paper is cool!)
  3. Trebuchet parts:
  • 12"x12" piece of card board
  • Popsicle sticks
  • Paperclips
  • Washers or AA battery
  • Marshmallows
  • Rubber bands
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Jumbo straw
  • Tape
  • String

If you would like a free kit, you may pick one up at our location: 1450 Fairchild Rd, Winston Salem NC 27105.
