SALISBURY — On Saturday, Aug. 18, seven Rowan County 4-H members competed in the Central Region 4-H Shooting Sports competition. This event was held at Millstone 4-H Camp in Ellerbe.

The 4-H Shooting Sports program is a youth development program that teaches youth proper safety, skill and discipline in shooting various types of firearms. The 4-Hers involved in this program, as well as their adult leaders, spend many hours in training and practice to develop their knowledge and skills in shooting.

During the regional competition, Rowan County 4-Hers scored:

Junior division:

  • Mason Gabosch, third place rifle O Class.
  • Tyler Horne, fourth place shotgun.
  • Christian Stebe, third place air pistol.

Senior division:

  • Sam Oster, first place small bore pistol, second place air pistol, fourth place rifle T Class.
  • Holly Wallace, third place rifle T Class, third place small bore pistol.

The above 4-Hers qualified for the State 4-H Shooting Sports competition which will be held on Sept. 29 at Millstone 4-H Camp.

Other local 4-Hers who competed include James Lee and Bryce Mason.

Special thanks to the 4-H volunteer leaders and coaches who helped to prepare these 4-Hers: Beth and Glenn Stebe, Brian Rider and Tim Gabosch.
